Seagem Collection : From Trash To Treasure

Seagem Collection : From Trash To Treasure

The Seagem Collection is one of the intelligent collections we have had.

After we were presented with a bucket full of #seaglasses by @madebyafricraft in the year, we tried playing around with them in their natural state and made a few pieces, but it wasn’t giving us the opportunity to wear the pieces ourselves, so we discarded or stopped working with them.

Our brains kept going back to them every now and then, but still nothing materialised!

In early 2023, the creative director consulted our lead silversmith on the possibility of manipulating the #seaglasses; cutting them in different shapes, polishing them, and so on and so forth, and gave it a try. So we got a few glasses from three different manufacturers and asked them to do their magic.

Guess what! The magic was delivered.

What we were seeking is a WOW effect when first these pieces are seen and the #jawdrops when it is communicated that these pieces are actually made from beer glasses (as some of our clients would describe them) that were dumped into the ocean, and after several years of being washed out by the shores of our beautiful beaches.

And with these two effects, we strongly believe that they have been met.

We want to thank each and every one of you for loving these pieces and for appreciating the wonderful efforts and thoughts that were made in creating and making them.

These are not just beautiful jewellery pieces; they are beautiful jewellery pieces that are made from what was once thought to be trash.

It’s our hope that you’ll enjoy wearing them as much as we enjoyed making them.

With love,

Ethereal Meraki
